CoCo Program
Code to Communicate (CoCo) Program is an NSF-funded project founded and developed by leaders from the GeoLatinas organization. I am one of the co-creators and founders of the initiative. Currently, I function as the Program Director. CoCo offers bilingual coding and science communication training to Latin and Hispanic early career researchers in Geoscience.
Science Communication Training
We have created a bilingual Science Communication Curriculum for early-career researchers in applied earth science. The training offers strategies to make science information more inclusive and accessible. We offer training on how to communicate scientific results to non-technical audiences. The training lasts 11-weeks in total and is divided into three parts: two training seasons of 5-weeks and a final week where students develop a research project and prepare a final presentation.
Teaching Goals
The first season is focused on increasing the understanding of different ways of doing science communication and the importance of writing for non-technical audiences. The second season’s teaching goals are to offer training in translation techniques, scientific posters, and presentations. Lastly, during the GeoHackeo, we teach proposal writing and public speaking.
